Date of tasting: 25th – 26th December 2014
Colour and condition: Medium-dusky medium cherry plum. 3
Aroma: Lovely opulent petit fruit rouge aromas: a melange of red cherry, red currant, raspberry, and alpine strawberries. Delightful. Asian spice, red rose, and buddleia undertones. Genuinely fragrant. 6.5
Palate and aftertaste: Medium-weight, very seductive and plush, with generous (but not over-weight) dried strawberry and dessert red cherry flavours (at the super-ripe end of cherry ripeness). Fine pervasive tannins, just slightly meaty (myoglobin) and roast meat touch at the outer mid- and back-palate with a touch of ‘grip’. Very charming indeed. 9
General comments: Beautiful, unforced, stylish and measured red-fruited Pinot noir. Hugely superior in my opinion to the 2012 Felton Road Block 3 Pinot noir. Delicious and very appealing. I’d unhesitatingly buy this again.
Medium-term cellaring to 2017 perhaps.
